Invasion #3 from DC Comics. Whe I was a kid, I walked into the grocery store one day with my family, and there on the magazine rack inside the door was Invasion #3. I hadn't seen the first two issues before that (not that I recall, anyway), and this one made my young jaw drop. All those heroes on the cover! All those heroes inside! United to face a global threat of alien invasion! So many ill in a full page shot of hospital beds! I would hunker down there beside the rack and flip through the pages, so excited about this comic. As I said, the magazine rack (more like shelves) was right beside the entrance to the store, and I remember many times hunched there getting a blast of cold air whenever someone entered the store in winter. I don't know if this was one of those times, but if it was, I wouldn't have noticed as entranced as I was. I have since bought issues 1 and 2, but as yet haven't read them.

Outlaws of the West #84 from Charlton Comics. This was probably my first western comic; if not, it was my first Charlton western comic. This issue was given to me (or traded for something) by a friend of mine back in grade school. It's one of my favorite comics merely because of the memory/nostalgia of it; I remember little about the contents. What stuck out to me at the time was the details of the Charlton printing when this comic was made: the colors were a bit blotchy and the bottoms of the pages sometimes had serrated cut patterns. I also remember the western dialect used in the stories was heavy. Overall, probably not a great comic, but it'll always stick in my mind affectionately.

That's right, folks. I have revived the separate libsyn page for The Cinematic Attic. Why? As much as I didn't want to realize it, my interest in film has become almost equal to my interest in comics. I have a lot of great ideas for new movie podcasts, youtube vids, and other content. It just feels right for me to have a page devoted to lots of comic podcasts, a page for all the movie podcasts, and a page for a variety of other podcasts. The trinity of Mike, if you will. I am in the process of migrating all the Cinematic Attic content that was exclusive to The Attic of Babel page to its rightful home, http://cinematicattic.libsyn.com/ As the items are moved, I will be deleting them from The Attic of Babel page. If all the content moving of the past year has confused and frustrated anyone, I apologize. I think this will finally straighten it all out.

For me as a kid, the normal edition of Overstreet's price guide was way out of the scope of my small allowance, so when the first edition of the smaller, cheaper Price Guide Companion came out, I got it as soon as I was able. It was a revelation to see all the different titles I'd never heard of. I looked at and studied this guide so much that the spine split into two halves. I still have it, though. From there, I graduated to borrowing the normal editions from the library until I was finally able to afford to buy them. I buy a new Overstreet guide every few years, but it never has the same effect as that first little abridged pocket edition.

The Comic Book Heroes: From the Silver Age to the Present by Will Jabobs and Gerard Jones. I bought this book when I was a kid and DEVOURED it. It was the first history of the comic book heroes I ever read, and it was so intensely fascinating, I can't even put in to words how valuable this volume was to my young comic-reading mind. Its history only began with the Silver Age, but I wasn't complaining; up until this book, the only history I got to experience was issues of Marvel Saga and reprint comics. Highly recommended then and now.

Make Your Own Comics For Fun and Profit was a book I read a lot as a kid. It was among the books in the library where I went to 6th grade, and I checked it out again and again. As a youngster, I made my own comics-- hundreds of them. This book was an inspiration to my young comic-creating mind. As an adult, I found this book secondhand and bought my own copy.

I plan on adding more comic book themed podcasts to this page. Some may be segment spin-offs (like maybe a Run With It! podcast), others will be new ideas (like a podcast on Marvel's alternate Earths or a podcast on anthropomorphic animal comics or a podcast paying tribute to deceased comic creators, etc.). That's all the info I have at this point, and I don't want to announce a bunch of things I never deliver. I am, however, hoping to deliver at least one new podcast next week (fingers crossed). This will require me to go into the category listing of all the CBA episodes and change them from "podcasts" to "The Comic Book Attic" so that I can categorize the new ones appropriately.

Just a quick note: I've decided that the negative-numbered episodes will undergo a bit of a redesign. In addition to whatever I talk about (whether it be what I bought that week or a review of a new comic), I will mix in other fun audio bits that are comic-related. Old radio shows, songs, theme songs, or excerpts from anything comic-themed will be fair game. The next proper numbered episode is half done. It's been a busy couple months...
