Oh, the continued perils of being internet-less. I have attempted to post episode 70 with another person's computer, which obviously couldn't handle it because the episode is not up. So, if you got an episode 70 that contained nothing, I apologize. The real thing is on the way. Someday soon... just consider me on vacation while I resolve this... September reads: As you can tell from some of the reads, I have been trying to go get back into buying a few more newer comics along with my older ones. I have been going back and buying recent Marvels that I missed because of my unhappiness with Marvel. I'm still not happy with them, but... more on that in episode #-2.

As you may have noticed, I did not post a new episode this past week. I won't be posting one this week either. I have to focus my attention right now on helping my wife move to Boston. Soon after September 1st, I will be back. The drawback is that I won't have a computer with internet access at my home (my wife is taking it). So, episodes may appear sporadically instead of on a regular schedule. More about that in show 70.

Yet another comic creator has passed away. Mike Wieringo died this past week, and he died far too young at 44. August reads continued: Somewhat behind my 30-read goal this month (I'm back to 30 comics as my monthly goal). This is a terribly busy month at work, plus I'm helping my wife prepare for the move to Boston. Oh, and the above Cerebus volume took a looooong time to get through because I MUST always read the extensive notes in the back of the volume...

One year anniversary episode! I ramble on a bit about the experience of one year as a comics podcaster, I go over some of my latest comic finds, and I read listener feedback. All cover images are copyright their respective copyright holders. (33:12) Please forgive any volume jumps that may occur in the episode. The Comic Book Attic now has a forum! I'm not forum savvy yet, so bear with me as I get it going.

Giant-Size Defenders #4. I believe this was a flea market find when I was young. This comic is not only cool for me because I like the Squadron Sinister/Supreme characters that appeared in the main story, but it's cool for me because of the type of tales that made up the rest of the book. My young self was thrilled to see the classic Ditko Doctor Strange reprint story that ended the book. My young self was even more ecstatic to discover the early 1940s Sub-Mariner reprint from Human Torch comics that appeared in the middle of the issue. A nice issue with a mix of the 40s, 60s, and 70s.

Thor #387. This was one of the first 2 or 3 issues of Thor I ever owned. The insane struggle of Thor vs. the Celestial began here and continued over the next two issues. This story provided an exciting, action-filled jolt to my young imagination. I bought this comic off the spinner rack of a local drug store-- the same drug store that supplied me with many of my first comics. Ron Frenz's art on Thor is wonderful. Frenz is one of three artists that I consider Thor's great artists (the other two being Kirby and Simonson).
